Mr. & Mrs Harold Lueters of Cherokee Village had a dream and on Sunday April 9,1967. They invited nine other Lutherans to their home to join them in a church service using a tape recording of a church service from their home church, Mount Calvary Lutheran Church of Detroit Michigan.

After three services in Lueders home, the attendance increase forced them to move to the Boy Scout building in the Village, and then to the Hobby House in the Village. On June 25th they decided on the name of the church, Peace Lutheran Church. Another change was made that year because there was not enough room, they moved to the Spring River Presbyterian Church in Hardy, AR.

In January 1968 a site of seven acres and a bedroom house was to serve as a temporary place of worship and later as the parsonage. Today it is known as Heath Funeral Home. In December, 1968, they obtained their first full time pastor, Rev. Louis F Maigal, of St. Louis. He was here for only a short period time because of ill health.

In June, 1970 Rev. Harold Scheer became pastor until 1973. Rev. Ralph Bird was involved with the growth of Peace Lutheran during the early days of planning and was installed on April 2, 1974. He served for 15 years retiring in April 1989. Rev. Robert Rock served as interim until Rev. Keith Less was installed May 6th, 1990.

The church bought property in Cherokee Village and built the present church at the South Entrance to the Village. It was dedicated in 1994.

In order to reach the young families in the area with the Gospel, Rev. Robert Cheney and Mrs. Kay Cheney started our preschool in 1997. Mrs. Kay Cheney was the teacher/director through 1997. Shannon Harris is currently the director/teacher with a staff of three teachers.

In 1998 Rev. Brian Pummill became the present Pastor.

Over the period of 38 years we have been very blessed with two daughter congregations, Hope Lutheran Church in Batesville AR. and Shepherd of the Hills Church in Horseshoe Bend, AR. Pastor Bird and the L.L.L. Men's Club began the wooden cross project now standing on the property side with the long entrance. We also dedicated the Memorial Garden at the back of the church property in 1990.

Starting in 2002 Peace began a second service to meet the wider range of needs and interest in the area through a Praise and Celebration Service.

God has blessed us!
